On Monday, May 12, 2025, at 1:30 PM, the Museum Depository of the Municipal Heritage Museum of Vis in Donji Samogor was officially and ceremonially opened. The opening was attended by the Mayor of Vis, Mr. Ivo Radica, the Director of the Archaeological Museum in Split, Dr. Ante Jurčević, and the Director of the Municipal Heritage Museum of Vis, Dr. Dinko Radić. The depository is functionally and professionally equipped in accordance with museum standards, ensuring optimal conditions for the preservation, protection, and processing of museum materials. The establishment of the depository enables the safe storage and processing of existing and newly discovered archaeological finds, as well as comprehensive documentation and interpretation of Vis’s past. The Vis City Museum is already planning a series of new projects that will include archaeological research, restoration interventions, exhibition and educational programs, cooperation with the academic community, and the involvement of the local community in the processes of preserving the island’s identity. This step forward in the active development of the museum enables scientific research, professional cataloging of materials, and comprehensive documentation and interpretation of Vis’s historical and archaeological heritage.
