Opening of the ZaOtočen Exhibition

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the exhibition zaOtočen by author Dalibor Ilić was ceremonially opened. This is the first in a series of contemporary art exhibitions organized by the Municipal Heritage Museum of Vis. The exhibition was presented by the director of the Local Museum of the City of Vis, Mr. Dinko Radić, and ceremonially opened by the mayor of the City of Vis, Mr. Hrvoje Mratinić. The exhibition author is Vis academic sculptor and painter Dalibor Ilić (1993), who presented his work to the Vis audience for the first time with thirty-one works from his opus. The exhibition features 14 large-format canvases in combined oil and acrylic on canvas technique, and 17 drawings in acrylic marker technique. The title zaOtočen is a play on words that alludes to the author’s isolation, but also his encirclement by the island where he lives, works, and creates. The central motif and inspiration, besides the island itself whose contours he often uses as background elements, is the elevation of women and their role as creators and protectors of life. There is a multitude of religious motifs, from Issan and mythological to biblical ones, which the author skillfully composes using a wide palette of vivid, emphasized tones. On the other hand, the drawings are of a more intimate character and more abstract compositions in which figures almost completely interweave, creating numerous hidden and recreated figural representations.

The exhibition is open until October 20, on weekdays and Sundays (10:00-13:00 and 17:00-21:00).
