On Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 8:30 PM, a lecture by Dr. Joško Belamarić titled The Battle of Vis in the Light of Naval Armament was held at the Croatian Home. The lecture was part of the City Day celebrations and also marked the upcoming 160th anniversary of the Battle of Vis, which will take place next year. Dr. Branko Belamarić is a graduate naval architect who has been actively researching the Battle of Vis for many years. He is also the author of the book The Battle of Vis in the Light of Naval Armament, published in 2021 by Književni krug Split and the Croatian Maritime Museum in Split. In the presented book, the author for the first time analyzes the armed aspect of the last great battle of sailing ships, describing the development of the ship’s ram, cannon, cannonball, ship armor, and naval shipbuilding, ship propulsion, and underwater protection. Therefore, this work is a significant contribution to the scientific research of the Battle of Vis, as well as to the local community for a better understanding of Vis’s heritage.
